What’s included in a studio party?

Parties in the studio include:

  • Party attendants
  • Setup
  • Pre-washed, preassigned, prepared t-shirt
  • Gloves
  • Aprons
  • Professional quality dyes
  • Tie-dye instruction from an experienced tie-dye artist
  • Space for food and gifts
  • Bag-o-props for silly selfies
  • A dance party (Party 2DY4 and with time left at the end of the 90 minute party)
  • 30 minute Craft/Game (Included in Party 2DY4 OR purchased as an upgrade)
  • A special gift for the guest of honor (Party 2DY4 Bonus OR purchased as an upgrade)
  • Cleanup

I booked an in studio birthday party, now what?

Now that we have your reservation all set, lets move on to what I need from you in order to create an awesome party for your kiddo.

I need your phone number and email.

For the Party 2DY4, party package, I need to know your kiddo’s t shirt size and what type of t shirt and colors they would like as my gift to them. Heart, spiral, mouse, or football. If they prefer something else, please, let me know. I am flexible. I will do my best to accommodate their request. :0) I need to know this at least 3 weeks before the party. Otherwise, I will just create a design as a gift to give to them. This is not included in the 90 minute party. However, it can be added for an additional $35)

In the invitation RSVP please request two things from parents:

A. I need to know the name of the participant and their t-shirt size at least one week before the date of the party. In order to keep the party running smoothly, it is important that I have the names of the guests ahead of time.

**If you are requesting screen printing on the shirts I must have the design confirmation, and all the guests names and sizes 3 weeks before the date of the party. **

kid sizes: small is a 5/6 medium 7/8 large 10   XL 12-14 The shirts are preshrunk, but take into account they may want these to last through summer. The rest of the adult sizes are pretty much standard.

B. Remind parents about the waiver they need to sign and send/bring to the workshop. It is also mandatory for each participant to have a waiver filled out before they can dye with us. This keeps me covered if someone decides to dye their hair blue…or worse! It also allows me to use pictures from the party for advertising. The waiver is available on the Roll Up N Dye website. http://rollupndye.com/wanna-dye/  The green rectangle on the bottom right of the page will direct them to the waiver. The participants MUST have a waiver signed in order to dye with us.

Finally, I need to know what 3 colors of dyes you prefer to have. The primary set we offer is actually 4 colors (turquoise, fuchsia, and yellow, plus the popular BRIGHT green). These colors are my personal favorites, because they are the most versatile. From these colors you can get pretty much any color of the rainbow. If you would like other colors, though, let me know what colors you like, and I can figure out what combination will work the best. Pink, blue and purple OR Turquoise, Lime Green, and Fuchsia Pink and are also a nice trio. Those seem to be popular choices, too. Just let me know what you want!

Can I bring my own music?

I have a kid appropriate dance party mix. But feel free to bring what you like. I have a hook up for ipad/ipod etc. pretty much any device with a headphone jack. But, if you are not sure that your device is compatible, just ask us (before the day of the party)

What is your studio like?

My studio is spacious and colorful. I have an area designated for food and gifts, and an open area for the dyeing and other activities. In addition to dyeing, the children get to put their hand prints on my wall and take silly selfies. I have a disco ball and other lights, bouncy balls and hula hoops for a post-dye dance party. And, of course, we take care of the clean-up!

Do we get to choose the designs?

For birthday parties and workshops for children ages 8 and under, and for other beginners, my assistants and I guide the children through the process of folding a spiral. It is the easiest for beginners, turns out great results. They are happy with and proud of what they have created. It is also one of the most popular tie dye patterns.
We like to keep the designs at parties simple in order to give each child plenty of one-on-one guidance with their creation. We reserve more advanced designs for small group workshops of 8 or less participants.

For children turning 10 and Tween/teen and Adult parties and workshops. The party host/hostess can choose ahead of time from a variety of designs.

Parties include basic design choices. If you prefer something more advanced, and the children are under the age of 9, there is an additional charge of $3 per participant. Can I bring my own shirt?

In most cases, no. The prewash detergent I use preps the cotton to better absorb the dyes. We also need the shirts before the day you dye. We need to prep and pre-soak the shirts ahead of time for better results.

Can we dye other stuff besides t shirts?

Yes, I have workshops where you can make mini tapestries, pillow cases, and some accessories. We are expanding beyond t shirts, slowly but surely. If you have a particular item you wanna dye, just contact me at erin@rollupndye.com.

Should I bring another activity or craft?

I always recommend if you are doing a party at your home, that you have another craft other activities planned. We have yet to need extra crafts or games during in-studio parties. We have a craft included in the Party 2DY4 and the post-dye dance party.

What is the youngest age child you will allow to dye with you?

We have dyed with children as young as 18 months. We require a parent assist us as we work with children in general, but with the young ones, we wanna be sure they don’t decide to take a swig or dye their hair blue.

Can I bring food for the party?

IMG_1990Absolutely! What party is complete without some snacks? We also have a nice local pizza joint around the corner that delivers. Bring on the cake and the juice boxes!

    • Design upgrade for younger children: This party includes basic design choices. If you prefer something more advanced, and the children are under the age of 9, there is an additional charge of $3 per participant. It will require us to prefold the main design or shape onto their shirt. The younger children can still fold the rest of the shirt, and dye it on their own.
    • Custom Gift from us. We dye a custom t shirt for the Birthday Star. $35
    • Custom Screen printed design on the shirts (prices vary)
    • Additional 30 minutes: $25 Kids age 8 and up can use our dice game “Left, Center, Right” or they have an additional 30 minutes to hoola hoop, dance or do a craft or game that you provide. Basically, you can use our studio space for 30 additional minutes.
    • Quarters for Left, Center, Right: $10 (we provide a $10 roll of Quarters) (we give you enough quarters for 13 players) Playing with actual money makes the game super fun and way more exciting. We suggest you play for keeps and let the winner take all.
    • Face Painting with Carly: (Prices vary based on the number of children.) This will require purchase of additional 30 minutes as well as her fees to use face paint to transform your kiddos into all sorts of creatures, including (but not limited to) fairies, bugs or even cheeseburgers!

 

Working Outside the Studio (11)

Is there a charge to come to a location besides the studio?

We can come to you. We will travel to pretty much anywhere. To come to you we will charge an additional $50.

If you are 26 miles or farther away from our studio there is an additional $1 per mile gas/travel fee.

If you come to our house or location, what do you need from me?

Yes, we have dyed with large groups outside of the studio (approx. 200 people) and we can do bigger or smaller. Not a problem. Bring it on!!

If you come to my house or location, how early will you arrive?

In order to set up, I will arrive approximately 1 hour before the start time.

What is the youngest age child you will allow to dye with you?

We have dyed with children as young as 18 months. We require a parent assist us as we work with children in general, but with the young ones, we wanna be sure they don’t decide to take a swig or dye their hair blue.

Is hosting a party outside your studio messy?

Gloves and aprons are provided to protect skin and clothes. In art, like life, accidents can happen so we do recommend wearing clothing you don’t mind staining.

Worried about floors in your home? Fear not, I have 100×40 foot tarp to keep things tidy. I have even been successful conducting parties over white carpet.

How many people can party with you for an event?

In studio, we like to keep parties at no more than 15 participants. For children’s parties, we do require the hosting parent to be present.

Custom Ordering (2)

Do you screen print logos onto shirts?

I am partnered with HoCo. Screen printing. Zeke is local, and super talented. He can make it happen! Keep in mind, should you want screen printing, there is a small set up fee and per shirt cost. I do not charge extra for this. I give you the price he gives to me.

About Tie Dyeing (7)

Is this educational?

Absolutely!
I use visual examples to show the children different ways they can dye their shirts to create different types of spirals. I teach the kids how to create the entire color spectrum using only fuchsia, turquoise and yellow. Upon request, for ages 8 and up I do a coloring activity. We may even bust out the white board. This interactive method helps to reinforce how to create the secondary colors using only the three primary.For the younger children, we teach it on a more age-appropriate level. They see what we teach them unfold before their very eyes. It is always so awesome to watch their eyes brighten as they see what they can create.

How do I care for my tie dye shirt? Will it fade?

We use the same professional materials and techniques that I use as an artist. With proper care, they will not fade or bleed over time or from washing. See our washing and care instructions to learn more.
